CFIA Vancouver and Cargo Flight #2

Well, today was the 'big day' -- shipping the cats to Australia. Even though it's only been 2 days since the last plane ride for the kitties, they seem to have forgotten about their adventure pretty quickly as they were relatively content and just chillin' out in Vancouver. Riley has been exceptionally lazy/nervous lately and has taken to sleeping under the blankets. I think he knows the journey isn't over yet!

Australia requires the cats' crates to be sealed by CFIA prior to their flight. We didn't know this, but the 'seal' was really just a metal tab that was fastened to the cage. Not exactly tamper proof.

After reviewing all the paperwork and re-stamping everything, we were done at the CFIA. Thankfully, the CFIA vet gave us a great tip -- buy ice cubes and put them in the cat dishes to allow them to melt and provide continuous water throughout the flight. So a quick stop at the local convenience store was made on the way to the cargo terminal.

Here are the cats all lined up in the Vancouver Cargo Terminal. If you look closely, you'll only see 2 cats in the cages. Apparently Chloe doesn't like the sound of planes and decided to hide under her bedding again as soon as we got her in the cargo area. Poor thing.

We said our last good-byes, told the cats we'd see them in Australia, and that it would all be over soon. Rough night.
